In Europe prior to the 19th century, individual birthday celebrations were generally reserved for the elite, while festivities with a more communal focus were practiced among the non-elite. Through a series of birthday hats and performative prompts, I invite the public to become the many guests of honor and to celebrate a vision of art created for and by the many. The whole museum becomes a stage in which to meet, celebrate and jest.
